RUSSIAN HELICOPTERS
Russian Helicopters is clearly the leader of the event. The Russian manufacturing company will exhibit, among all, two interesting models in its stand at HeliRussia. The first one is the HEMS version of the Ansat multipurpose light helicopter, which comes with a wider cabin and large sliding doors that makes it ideal for HEMS operations. Russian Helicopters will also unveil the third prototype of its new Mi-38 helicopter, the transport version of the historical Mil Mi-8 and Mil Mi-17.
AGUSTAWESTLAND AND THE AW139 MADE-IN-RUSSIA
On the other hand, AgustaWestland will bring its AW139 built by Helivert, a joint venture between the Anglo-Italian Company and Russian Helicopters. The model was designed for Russian governmental and state-controlled authorities, as well as for Russian police.
AIRBUS HELICOPTERS TARGETS THE VIP MARKET
Airbus Helicopters is also attending the show in Moscow, where the French-German Company will exhibit its ES175 for the first time. The ES175 is the VIP transport version of the EC175, and its interior designed was made by Pegasus Design. This is how Airbus Helicopters aims at satisfying the needs of the new Russian nouveaux riches (according a report published in Forbes, there are more than 100 billionaires in Russia), among the youngest in the world for their average age. The ES175 deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2014. Local Company UTAir has already signed an agreement for 15 helicopters.
BELL HELICOPTER AND ROBINSON
American manufacturers are also participating to the Russian event. Bell Helicopter is going to show its 407JX and 429 helicopters, one of its best models. On the other hand, through its Russian branch, Robinson will exhibit the 500th model of the R66, which has just been certified by the EASA.
RUSSIA: A LUXURY FRONTIER
HeliRussia 2014 is particularly important given the latest numbers on the rotorcraft market in the Euro-Asian country: during the last 5 years, the number of helicopters built by foreign companies and purchased by Russians has increased of 237%, from the 246 helicopters in 2009 to the 584 in 2014. The absolute market leader is Robinson, which covers almost 63% of the overall light helicopters deliveries. However, the local industries will have to respond to foreign competition: part of their strategies will actually be unveiled during the next HeliRussia.
